Food Services
Serving approximately 1,100 meals each day... over 200, 000 meals each school year plus an additional 130,000 á la carte items to the students in our district, the Madison Public Schools Department of Food Services is committed to providing nutritious meals to the students and staff in the district. In addition to administering the school meals program, the Department of Food Services oversees vending machines and special event catering for the district.
The Department of Food Services provides more than nutritionally balanced meals to our children. The department strives to help students develop the basis for a lifetime of healthy eating habits. The meals offered meet or exceed the Dietary Guidelines for Americans as outlined by the Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS). The Department of Food Services also works to limit access to foods deemed to be of minimal nutritional value, as defined under National School Lunch Program regulations.
The Madison Public Schools Department of Food Services is managed by Chartwells School Dining Services.
For elementary school students, Chartwell's Fundamentals program combines healthy food and fun with a wholesome learning experience featuring animated characters who entertain and inform students about food groups and nutritional concepts.
Chartwell's Nurture Our World program promotes a balanced approach to nutrition and environmental awareness. Nurture Our World features Balanced Choice™ foods that are available in our dining and vending locations, to help promote healthy lifestyles.
