Walter C. Polson Middle School Physical Education
|
The goal of the physical education department is to help students appreciate the importance of lifelong physical activities and how these activities contribute to a healthy lifestyle. The physical education program is made up of two components. The first component is active participation in a variety of team sports and activities. Sports in the fall months include speedball, field hockey, soccer floor hockey, ultimate frisbee and flag football. Winter activities include basketball, strength training, volleyball and team handball. Springtime activities include lacrosse, badminton, softball and track and field. Students are also introduced to a variety of cooperative and adventure activities throughout the school year. The second component of the program is physical fitness. Throughout the school year, all students will be taking the Connecticut State Fitness Test. The mile run assessment is given both in the fall and in the spring. Students are encouraged to do their best on all physical fitness assessments. Mr. Link's classes are currently in the middle of a flag football unit which will run until the holiday break.
