May 20, 2008

Dear Parents of Eighth Graders:

May has arrived and traditionally this is our busiest month of the year.  Here at Polson we continue “business as usual” when it comes to teaching and learning and you can support this by reminding your children (as we have) about the importance of their school work and academic responsibilities.  I am confident with the encouragement at home and at school our students will stay focused and diligent until June 18th.

Reminder:  The Transition Meeting for Polson parents is Tuesday, May 27th, @ 7:00 P.M. in the Polson auditorium.  Mrs. Britton, Principal at Daniel Hand High School, will be speaking with Grade 8 parents after our general meeting, and I will be speaking with current Grade 6 and Grade 7 parents about scheduling and programming for the 2008 – 2009 school year.

Please read carefully the information below related to the Stepping Forth ceremony and other end of the year events at Polson.

STEPPING FORTH CEREMONY

On Wednesday, June 18th at 9:00 A.M. we will be holding our 5th annual Walter C. Polson Middle School Stepping Forth ceremony for the Polson class of 2008.  Students should arrive at school on Wednesday morning at the regular time and report to homeroom by 7:30 A.M.

Ceremony location:  The Polson gymnasium.

Tickets:  Enclosed you will find two numbered tickets for your family.

Additional tickets:  We can guarantee one additional ticket per family.  Please make that request by calling the main office at 245-6480 by Friday, June 6th.  After June 6th, we will issue the remaining tickets (one additional per family – totaling four per family maximum) on a first come, first served basis beginning Monday, June 9th at 8:00 A.M.

Parking:  Parents are welcome to park either in front of Polson, or in the back lot closer to the gymnasium entrance.  Overflow parking will be directed to Daniel Hand High School.

Pre-ceremony:  The gymnasium will open at 8:00 A.M. the morning of the ceremony.  The ceremony will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M. and will finish at approximately 10:15 A.M.  Please enter the building through the gymnasium entrance, present your ticket at the door, and sit anywhere in the bleachers for the ceremony.

Post ceremony:  Following the ceremony, we invite you to enjoy refreshments outside of the gym lobby with family and friends courtesy of the Polson PTO.

Dress code:  As a general rule, boys should wear dress slacks, a shirt with a collar, and a tie.  A jacket is optional.  Girls are expected to wear dresses, skirts, or dress pants and blouses.  Please assist your child in selecting appropriate clothing for this memorable school function.

We are looking forward to a very exciting day for a very special class!
